Youth Development Coordinator - Part-Time (30 hours/week)

The Youth Empowerment Specialist will work as part of the program team, which includes the Director of Programs, Family Resource Coordinator, Adult Education and Services Coordinator, and Youth Activities Leader.  The position will work with two distinct demographics: 1) middle and high school youth between the ages of 11-19, who are family members of backside workers; 2) Older youth who are more recent arrivals in the U.S. who are working but not participating in BLC programming. The position will work out of the BLC’s main office, located on the backside of Churchill Downs racetrack, while also performing responsibilities at the Front Runners program site near the track. Required staffing time for the Front Runners program is on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm. Other hours for planning are flexible throughout the week. The position will report directly to the Director of Programs.

Internships

Youth Summer Programming Internship

The Youth Summer Programming Intern supports the children of equine workers employed on the backside of Churchill Downs by connecting them to fun, social/educational opportunities during their summer break. Summer camps are a great way for kids to get involved in their community, try something new, and interact with other kids. The Youth Summer Programming Intern focuses on serving as a liaison between BLC families and summer camp providers in the Louisville community.

Family Program Internship

A Family Program Intern supports families employed on the backside of Churchill Downs by staffing our after-school tutoring program, Front Runners. He/she works alongside the Director of Programs by serving as a kids/youth classroom lead, planning engaging group activities, and serving as a one-on-one tutor to children and youth.

Adult Education Internship

The Adult Education Intern supports the Adult Education Coordinator in providing educational programs and opportunities for the men and women employed on the backside of Churchill Downs. He/she shows special interest in the education of adults, particularly language learners. The Adult Education intern is responsible for preparing and executing lesson plans, tracking program participation, and helping to maintain an organized learning environment.

Communications and Development Internship

The Communications and Development Intern works alongside the Director of Development in planning fundraising events and researching corporate grants. They will also assist by contributing to ideas for social media posts, helping to create marketing materials and organizing a digital filing system.
