Program Assistant Internship

Job Summary: 

 

The BLC is looking for a highly motivated individual looking to gain experience in program assistance in a small non-profit organization. As the BLC is made up of a small staff, interns are able to have substantial direct involvement in programming activities with a great deal of responsibility in close coordination with a staff member. Exact duties of the position may vary depending upon the skills and interests of the candidate, but may include:

 

  • Direct services:  staffing the Center and assisting workers as needed: filling out paperwork, navigating internet, referrals, etc.

  • Programming: outreach and organization of classes, planning and organizing activities and events in conjunction with Center staff

  • Administration: tracking program participation, entering information into a database, coordination of volunteer tasks, developing materials (flyers), assistance with the monthly newsletter, social media and other responsibilities as needed.

 

 

Educational Program Assistant Internship

Job Summary:

 

The BLC is looking for highly motivated individuals looking to gain experience in family education programs. As the BLC is made up of a small staff, interns are able to have substantial direct involvement in programming activities with a great deal of responsibility in close coordination with staff members. Responsibilities for this position may include:

 

  • Teaching English to adults

  • Tutoring children with homework and other educational activities

  • Interacting and coordinating with volunteers

  • Collaborating with ESL teacher about joint projects and field trips

  • Planning creative and engaging activities for children during down times

  • Researching and reaching out into the community to find and organize field trips, interactive workshops, and guest speakers or presenters for both children and adults

  • Keeping track of attendance

  • Organizing special program events

Available Fall and Spring Semesters

ESL Instructor Internship

The BLC is looking for highly motivated individuals looking to gain experience in English Language Instruction. As the BLC is made up of a small staff, interns are able to have substantial direct involvement in programming activities with a great deal of responsibility in close coordination with staff members. Responsibilities for this position may include:

  • Teaching English to adults as either lead or assistant instructor as part of a team of 2 (per class)

  • Preparing lesson plans with the guidance of BLC program manager, appropriate to students’ level and relevant to their everyday lives

  • Planning activities and field trips together with BLC staff to promote experiential learning

  • Keeping track of attendance

  • Communicating with BLC staff any issues related to students as needed
